The United States Department of Defense said the State Department approved the $125 million sale of Javelin anti-tank missiles to Lithuania. The tensions have been high in Eastern Europe with Russia deploying troops along its Ukrainian border. In October, the United States sent Javelin missiles to Ukraine.
The Pentagon said the package includes 341 of the FGM-148F variant of the weapon and 30 command launch units, spares and technical support.
The sale will help Lithuania to build its long-term defense capacity to defend its territorial integrity, according to the Pentagon statement.
However, the statement does not indicate a contract has been signed or negotiations have been concluded, despite the State Department’s approval.
Lockheed Martin and Raytheon are the prime contractors for the weapons.
