EV maker Fisker aims to ramp up Ocean SUV production in the fourth quarter

Fisker, the electric vehicle startup, is preparing to significantly increase production of its Ocean SUV in the fourth quarter of this year. The company anticipates boosting production to around 300 units per day, up from approximately 180 units. Fisker’s manufacturing is carried out in collaboration with Magna International, a Canadian auto parts supplier, which produces the vehicles for both the European and North American markets.

The startup expects a surge in vehicle deliveries in North America, with CEO Henrik Fisker stating that this uptick will occur in September.

According to the company, as of September 4th, Magna has manufactured a total of 3,123 vehicles for Fisker. Of these, just under 3,000 have been handed over to Fisker, and over 450 Fisker Oceans in the US have either been delivered to customers or are in the process of being delivered.

However, it’s worth noting that last month, Fisker adjusted its annual production target downward due to ongoing supply chain issues.

These issues overshadowed the company’s smaller-than-expected quarterly loss and its achievement of generating its first revenue from deliveries of electric sport utility vehicles. Fisker cited one specific supplier as a bottleneck in the production process, with a part requiring specialized labor taking longer to deliver than expected.

U.S.-China chip tensions wipe billions from AI stocks

The global semiconductor industry took a major hit on Wednesday as markets reacted to the mounting uncertainty created by U.S. President Donald Trump’s intensifying trade actions — specifically targeting high-tech exports to China. Shares in AI chip leader Nvidia plunged nearly 7%, wiping out more than $148 billion in market value, while AMD fell 5.8%, amid warnings from both companies of significant revenue hits due to new U.S. export restrictions.

Nvidia disclosed it expects to lose $5.5 billion in sales following new Commerce Department curbs on its China-specific H20 AI processors. AMD, meanwhile, said the same restrictions would cost it around $800 million, as its MI308 processor was also caught in the dragnet.

Trump’s latest tariff blitz poised to reshape global trade, trigger retaliation

President Donald Trump is poised to implement sweeping new tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China, marking one of the most aggressive trade moves of his administration. The tariffs, set to take effect on Tuesday, would impose a 25% duty on nearly all imports from Canada and Mexico, except for Canadian energy, which would face a 10% rate. Simultaneously, Trump has announced plans to double tariffs on Chinese imports to 20%.

The measures, which were previously delayed, could still be postponed again, though Trump has emphasized that they are intended to pressure Canada and Mexico into taking stronger action on border security and drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl.
